These Conditions Are Best Treated With Juvéderm Injections

Thinking of having your wrinkles treated? That’s what Juvéderm is made for. It also works on folds in the skin such as nasolabial folds (also known as “smile lines”). If you’re wondering exactly why it’s so useful in treating wrinkles, read on.

What is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is a non-surgical gel filler designed to reduce facial wrinkles and folds. This product consists of a substance that occurs naturally in the body: hyaluronic acid. As we age, we lose hyaluronic acid, and our skin loses both structure and volume. Juvéderm is injected below the outer layer of skin. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons explains that when injected into the skin, hyalurionic acid “acts like an inflated cushion to support facial structures and tissues that may have lost volume or elasticity due to normal aging. It also brings water to the surface of skin to keep it looking fresh and supple.” Synthetic forms of hyaluronic acid are also used to treat “disorders in the fields of rheumatology, ophthalmology, and wound repair.”

What else should I know about Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is a good filler choice because it occurs naturally in the body. It can, of course, still have some side effects of a mild-moderate and short-term nature, including redness, pain, and swelling.  Juvéderm is also not suitable for your skin treatment if you have severe allergies. Some Juvéderm products contain local anesthetic to minimize discomfort during the procedure.

According to the Juvéderm website, treatments can last up to a year; after that point, patients can get repeat injections of about half the amount originally needed to maintain the desired skin condition. The treatment itself can be performed during a brief doctor’s visit. Juvéderm.com recommends having a doctor specifically trained in administering Juvéderm injections perform the procedure.

Of the reviewers on realself, 89% say the treatment is worth it. Juvéderm is overall an effective product with a minimally invasive procedure and short time commitment. Juvéderm also works on all skin types.
