Royal Centre of Plastic Surgery is committed to helping our out-of-town patients in the entire surgical experience from pre-consultation to post-surgery care. Our patient care coordinator will assist the patient with travel arrangements, limousine service and personalized patient care before, during and after your surgery.
Preparing for surgery at Royal Centre of Plastic Surgery as an out-of-town patient
All our patients receive an informative package via email which will provide all necessary information required in understanding the procedure of choice. It is recommended that the patient send digital pictures for review by Dr. Dickie prior to your teleconference. For body contouring procedures, views should be taken from the neck down. For facial surgery, an up-close picture, shot from various angles, is necessary.
Teleconference with Dr. Dickie
Any patient who is considering cosmetic surgery and is not able to have the preliminary consultation due to distance, an online teleconference can be held with our patient care coordinator and/or Dr. Dickie. During this time, your surgery of choice will be discussed using your digital pictures which were provided via email. At this time, you will also receive a surgical quote and financing options will be discussed.
Prior to your surgical date
Patients should arrive at least one full day prior to your surgical date. If necessary, a limousine will pick you up at the Toronto airport and drive 40 minutes to Royal Centre of Plastic Surgery in Barrie. A thorough consultation will be held with Dr. Dickie where additional concerns or questions may be addressed.
Your surgery
All surgical procedures are scheduled at our private surgical centre. If you are having a general anaesthetic, you will consult with the Anaesthetist. Our surgical suite is equipped with the most highly advanced medical equipment. Surgical procedures will vary in length, depending upon the nature of the procedure. Our aim at Royal Centre of Plastic Surgery is to provide the highest in standard of patient safety while completing the procedure in a relaxing, hospitable environment. The majority of surgical procedures are performed on an outpatient basis. However, in some cases, the nature of the surgery may require an overnight stay. If the patient is traveling alone, then it is necessary to remain overnight in our facility with private nursing care.
Following discharge from RCPS
During your immediate recovery, you will stay in the hotel selected by you and one of our patient care coordinators. We offer limousine service to our facility from your hotel for follow-up care. In most cases, our patients are able to travel home within one week. In the ensuing weeks after your trip home, you will be able to follow a specific list of post-operative instructions specific to your surgery. All major medical care is handled prior to your departure from Barrie. As the majority of sutures used are absorbable, you will not have to undergo suture removal at home. Should anything of an urgent nature arise during your recovery at home, Dr. Dickie will be available to assist you in relaying information to another doctor about your problem, if warranted.
