Procedure of Botox Treatment
During your Botox consultation at our clinic in Barrie Dr. Dickie will perform you facial analysis. The actual procedure normally takes about ten to fifteen minutes. The cosmetic surgeon may choose to use a local anaesthetic cream or ice to minimize any discomfort and will inject a tiny amount of BOTOX® precisely into the muscle being treated. A very fine needle and a small amount of liquid is used, so the pain normally associated with injections is minimal. Once the injection is complete, there is usually no lingering discomfort, and you can resume normal activities immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions About Botox Injections
What is Botox used for?
Botox is a protein made from Botulinum toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Botox is a toxin, but when used in the appropriate dose under medical surveillance, it has both cosmetic and medical benefits. Botox injections are primarily known for their ability to reduce and prevent facial wrinkles, however, it is also approved by FDA to treat several other conditions such as eyelid spasms, excessive sweating, some bladder disorders and preventing chronic migraine.
How does Botox work?
Acting on the neuromuscular junction, Botox blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles and the injected muscle can’t contract. Consequently, wrinkles relax and soften.
What is Botox used for cosmetically?
Cosmetic surgeons have been using Botox for years successfully to treat wrinkles and facial creases, to help patients regain their youthful appearance. It is most often used on forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet (lines around the eye), and frown lines.
Are fillers better than Botox?
Dermal fillers might produce longer lasting results, but also have more side effects than Botox injections. Moreover, Botox and dermal fillers have been developed for slightly different indications and are usually used in different areas of the face to reduce signs of aging.
Both Botox and dermal fillers are applied to smooth wrinkles, but Botox is primarily used to treat dynamic wrinkles that occur naturally around the eyes, mouth and in between eyebrows. These type of wrinkles become more pronounced with age. Botox is not applied on collagen breakdown induced fine lines. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, are primarily used to treat smile lines or to plump up the lips or cheeks. They can also be used for hand treatments or to reduce the appearance of scars.
How long does it take for Botox to wear off?
The effects from Botox shot will usually last 3 to 6 months. (For first time Botox users might be less then 3 months.) As muscle action slowly returns, the wrinkles begin to reappear. When Botox injections are administered regularly, after a few years the duration of its effect can go up to 9 months.
What is the mechanism of action of Botox?
