Nose Correction Surgery (Rhinoplasty) in Barrie, Ontario
Your nose is the central, most prominent facial feature. When your nose is out of proportion with other facial features, it can affect self-image and confidence. Nose enhancement (nose job or technically called rhinoplasty) is among the most common of all plastic surgery procedures. Nose jobs can be performed on any part of the nose, to increase or reduce its size, to modify the size and shape of the nostrils, to change the projection of the nasal tip or bridge of the nose, or to alter the slope or angle of the nose. Rhinoplasty may also be performed to correct an injury or birth defect, or to improve breathing. In some cases, nose enhancements can be obtained with a non-surgical nose job, which is a dermal filler precedure.
Who is a candidate for Nose Job?
Dr. Kenneth Dickie, board-certified plastic surgeon in Ontario, will carefully evaluate your nose and facial features and discuss your goals for improvement. Surgery can improve your nose if you require alteration or reshaping of the nasal bridge, reducing the shape or width of the nose, reshaping the nasal tip, reducing the width or the size of the nostrils, or adjusting the angle between the nose and upper lip. Patients who have had a nose injury/accident or have obstructed nasal airways are also considered good candidates for surgery.
How is Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery) Performed
At the Royal Centre of Plastic Surgery Dr. Dickie performs rhinoplasty or nose job under local or general anaesthesia in his fully accredited in-office surgical facility in Barrie (one-hour drive from Toronto). Surgery can either be performed using a closed procedure where incisions are hidden inside the nose, or an open procedure where an incision is made around the nostril and columella (the narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils). Through either of these incisions, the soft tissue that covers the nose is raised allowing access to reshape the structure of the nose during a nose job Barrie (rhinoplasty Toronto).
Recovery After the Nose Job
After your nose surgery you may experience some discomfort, but this can be alleviated with a cold compress and prescribed pain medication. You may experience some swelling, bruising and headaches. Dr. Dickie will advise you to keep your head elevated until the initial swelling subsides. You will be discharged with a nose splint and nasal packing to support your nose. These must remain in place until your follow-up visit with your plastic surgeon. You may be required to wear the nose splint for approximately one week, packing is typically removed within two to seven days, depending on the extent of your surgery. You can usually return to work or non-strenuous activities as soon as you feel comfortable to do so. Strenuous activities may be resumed within a few weeks.
