Brachioplasty – Arm Lift Surgery in Barrie, Ontario
What is an Arm Lift Surgery?
An arm lift (also know as Brachioplasty) is a cosmetic surgery procedure that reduces excess sagging skin that droops downwards when the arm is extended away from the body. It also tightens and smooths the underlying supportive tissue that defines the shape of the upper arm.
How is an Arm Lift Surgery performed?
Dr. Dickie performs an arm lift surgery under a general anaesthetic, however, local anesthesia with sedation may also be used. This would be determined during your consultation. The procedure takes 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the individual patient. Arm lifts are typically performed as an outpatient; however, individual circumstances and extent of surgery may require an overnight stay in our private surgical facility at the Royal Centre of Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Dickie will make an incision from the axilla (underarm) to the elbow, this may vary in length depending on the amount of extra skin to be removed, as well as the personal preference and Dr. Dickie’s surgical judgment.
Through these incisions, Dr. Dickie will tighten the underlying supportive tissue and reshape using internal sutures. Liposuction can be performed at the same time, if removing fatty tissue is necessary. Dr. Dickie then closes the incisions with either absorbable sutures or stitches that would be removed approximately one week later.
Who is a good candidate for an Arm Lift?
You may be considered a good candidate for an arm lift surgery if you are physically healthy and like with most body contouring procedures, you have a stable weight. Good candidates for arm lift have a significant amount of loose skin on their upper arm. If the undersides of your upper arms have become saggy, and the skin appears loose and droopy due to excess skin and fat you can benefit from this surgical technique.
Healing Process and Recovery After Brachioplasty
After your arm lift surgery, Dr. Dickie will apply dressings to your brachioplasty scar. You will wear a removable compression garment in order to minimize swelling while supporting your new contours as you heal. Dr. Dickie may also place a temporary drain tube under the skin to drain any excess fluids that would otherwise collect around your incision. Typically arm lift patients can return to work after about two weeks. However, strenuous activity must be avoided for four to six weeks. Your brachioplasty scar will take approximately three to twelve months to fade and flatten.
