Laser Skin Resurfacing Procedures Barrie, Ontario
Do you wish that you could renew your complexion to make it smoother and more evenly toned? If the answer is yes, then laser skin resurfacing may be a good option for you. At the Royal Centre of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Dickie uses a carbon dioxide laser to smooth the facial skin and eradicate deep lines and wrinkles. It also corrects areas of uneven pigmentation caused by pregnancy or sun damage. The result is a fresher, smoother complexion.
Is Laser Skin Resurfacing right for me?
You may be a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing treatments if you have fair, healthy skin and have deep lines, especially around the eyes, vertical lines around the mouth, facial scars caused by injury or accident, acne scars, age spots and lines on the cheeks caused by sun exposure damage.
Procedure
During your physical evaluation, board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Dickie will evaluate the quality, thickness and colour of your skin. Laser skin resurfacing is usually performed under local anaesthesia. Before the laser resurfacing begins you’ll be fitted with protective eyewear to shield your eyes throughout the procedure, an Ultra Pulse carbon dioxide laser is then used to resurface the skin. After the laser treatment, Dr. Dickie will apply topical creams and cleansers to the treated skin area. At the Royal Centre of Plastic Surgery, each patient receives detailed, post-operative care instructions for managing home care during the two-week healing process.
Recovery
You are likely to experience some mild to moderate swelling. If required, prescribed medication can help you stay comfortable.
Although everyone heals at a different rate, you can expect to be bright pink in colour for the first few weeks. You can safely apply mineral makeup to your face after about two weeks. You may be able to return to work, depending on how you feel, after two to three weeks.
How long after laser resurfacing do you see results?
After a month, the redness will start to fade, and you will begin to appreciate your improved appearance. In the months following the laser treatment, it is essential to protect your face from the sun until all the your skin tone has returned to normal. Once the skin is healed after two weeks, our patients are instructed to apply the Obagi Nu-Derm corrective creams to accelerate the rate at which the skin rejuvenates.
How long does it take for collagen to rebuild after resurfacing?
A fundamental effect of laser skin resurfacing treatments is the stimulation of natural collagen production in the skin. Collagen is a protein found in the skin (and also in the connective tissue, tendon, bone, and cartilage) that is responsible for firm structure and elasticity. Collagen production with laser treatment is induced by creating micro-injuries in the skin signalling the body to produce new skin cells and collagen strands.
Collagen production continues for six months or longer after laser resurfacing treatment – reducing the appearance of deep wrinkles, fine lines, and acne scars.
