Can I Get Back in Shape like Celebrities Do After Giving Birth?

“I still weigh the same as when I was nine months pregnant with my daughter.”

Is that familiar?  Has it been more than a few months since you’ve given birth, and you feel like you haven’t had the time or ability to lose the baby weight?  Do you look at skinny celebrity moms with a mixture of envy and longing?

How Celebrities Get their Pre-Baby Bodies Back

We’re always seeing pictures of famous stars who regain their pre-baby figures with lightning speed. But the truth is, they have resources that the typical woman can only dream of. While most women spent the nine months working or caring for other children, these celebrity figures had the benefit of personal trainers, dieticians, healthcare practitioners and chefs who care for and pamper them – resulting in less weight gain and fitter bodies. The health and exercise regimen was already in place, and then, postpartum, these same professionals help get the weight off fast.

Stars are also under intense pressure to be camera-ready. Some take the risk of going on extreme diets to lose baby weight quickly, a strategy that isn’t recommended to new mothers because proper nourishment is essential to repair the body after its baby-making marathon, and to produce quality milk.

The Hard Way to Get your Body Back

Looking like your old self again is possible, but it takes a lot of hard work and dedication. Experts agree that weight loss is more about diet than exercise. Breastfeeding certainly helps take fat from the body, so nursing moms should not attempt to restrict calories any lower than 1,800 per day. In order to give your body a chance to recover, nutritionists advise against going on any diet until at least six weeks after giving birth.

When it comes to exercise, moving is good for you. Start with walking, then graduate to whatever exercises you were doing in your third trimester and work your way backwards to your old workout routine, placing emphasis on core-strengthening activities like pelvic tilts, plank exercises and pilates. The key is to start slow and gentle – going too hard too soon may cause injury.

Get Your Beautiful Body With a Mommy Makeover

Giving birth to a child is a beautiful thing. To most women, the joy of holding their child for the first time isn’t comparable to anything else. However, many women struggle with the weight accumulated during pregnancy.

Getting back to your old self is now possible with mommy makeovers. A mommy makeover is not a procedure in itself but a combination of procedures that can include liposuction to remove tummy fat, a tummy tuck to tighten the abdomen, breast augmentation to restore lost fullness and/or a breast lift for higher, firmer breasts.

If you’re considering a mommy makeover, you need to take your time to choose the right experienced plastic surgeon for your needs. At Royal Centre of Plastic Surgery, we know the decision to undergo any body contouring procedure is an important one, and we aim to make you feel comfortable from our initial consultation through your recovery.  If you want to learn more about your options and the experience, schedule a consultation with our award winning board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Dickie, and start looking like your pre-pregnancy self again!
